In order to obtain a license in the state of California, applicants must fulfill the demands set by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services or BSIS in short. Their first desire is that all applicants are at least 18 years of age. No exceptions are made on this requirement, so emancipated minors have to wait until they're 18 years old before they can apply for their guard card.
If the age condition is met, you can proceed to the next step in the security guard license application process. This involves following a so-called Power to Arrest education course at a state-approved
California security training academy. During this classroom training course, the future security guards will be learning some of the skills that are required for their career in the security sector.
The BSIS also requires security guards to be free from any criminal convictions, hence the next step consists of proving to the BSIS that we have a clean criminal background. This can be done by having our fingerprints registered digitally and posting them to the Federal Bureau for a criminal background check. Please note that a $79 fee should be paid for the criminal background check.
Seeing that we have completed the mandatory security guard training and recorded our fingerprints, we wish to make an application for a
California security guard license. This should be done by filling out a california guard card application form and submitting it to the California Department of Consumer Affairs either on the web or by postal mail. The official guard card will arrive in the mail within 3 to 4 weeks
As soon as you receive your personal guard card, you can begin job seeking for a position as a security guard. However, in an effort to keep the guard card, adittional mandatory training is called for once you are employed. This specific on-the-job training course contains 2 modules. The first having to be completed within a thirty day period of the day you got employed, the second within half a year. In these lessons, the security guards will be learning the more practical parts of being occupied as a security guard, such as how to write proper reports and verbal skill development.
