4 Learning Experiences To Prepare Your Child For A Better Future

By:

We all want our children to have a better future—for themselves but also so they have a good impact on the world and do something we can be proud of. Many parents, unfortunately, see their children go down a different path than they intended, and of course we still love them for their shortcomings, but sometimes it leaves us feeling like we did something wrong.

Well, part of it is that you can't just tell a child how to live and expect them to listen.

First, you need to live it yourself, and second, it's about educating rather than telling. It's about showing them the ropes of the future rather than handing them vague advice. Here are some vital educational components to prepare your child for a better future.

1. Environmental Experiences

In these modern times, an awareness of environmental problems cannot be dismissed and is essential for our children to learn responsibility. We can no longer just keep using the Earth for our own needs, or our children's children, and perhaps our children themselves, will have hardly a future at all.

Get them involved with grassroots environmental efforts that get them up close to the problems, and incorporate better environmental choices into your own lifestyle.

2. Financial Experiences

Financial education is perhaps the most overlooked facet of a growing person's knowledge base. It is safe to say that the vast majority of Americans have received no financial education at all, and this is a big reason for the economic crisis we see now.

Teach your child to work hard for their money and how to make money work for them. Inspire a hard-working, entrepreneurial spirit from a young age and give an example of intelligent spending habits.

3. Consequential Experiences

An important lesson for children that many never learn until it is too late is the reality of consequence. This is true for many of us at a young age because our parents often protect us from the bite of consequence when we are younger but also a lot of the bad choices we make have results that don't manifest until we are much older.

Give them a little room to feel the sting of their own bad decisions. Force them to take responsibility for their actions so they learn the hard lessons when they are still young.

4. Active Experiences

One such consequence that can plague us long after we make the choices that are its cause is to have a lifestyle with little physical activity, and that's why I think physical intelligence is also a must. Children should be kept active from a very young age, and as they get older, this activity should be come more deliberate (but still fun).

Most important, they need to know the reason for it and be taught to develop a healthy lifestyle from early on.

One way to encourage this type of physical intelligence is by creating an active area in your yard and getting your kids outside on a regular basis. You can do this by setting up a child's playset and some swings and making it a regular activity. To learn more about purchasing Birmingham swing sets or playsets, go to http://SuperiorPlay.com
