4 Easy Care Tips To Prolong The Life Of Your Tires

By:

When it comes to your car, the rubber meets the road through your tires. The four easy to do tips I'm recommending will save you money by helping to prolong the life of your tires.

1- KEEP A GOOD RECORD OF YOUR TIRE INFORMATION AND KEEP IT IN YOUR GLOVE BOX.

Look at your tire and find information imprinted on it. You might find something that looks similar to P235/75/R15

The P tells you the type of tire because it is the first letter in this example. P stands for Passenger, LT is Light Truck, and T is for temporary. Measured in millimeters, the 235 tells you the width of the tread surface.

The second number is the height of the sidewall, compared to the tread, which is called an aspect ratio. What the 75 is telling you is the tire's sidewall is 75 percent of the 235.

The third number has a letter that informs you of what kind of tire it is and the diameter of the rim in inches. The R15 states the tire is a radial with a fifteen inch rim.

2- KEEP A REGULAR AUTOMOBILE TIRE ROTATION SHEDULE

Friction from the road will take it's toll out on your tires. Tires are a little different and wear differently from each other, so it's important to rotate them regularly. Check your owners manual for the precise interval and rotation pattern required for your car.

3- AUTOMOBILE TIRES NEED TO BE CHECKED AND CLEANED REGULARLY

Checking your tire pressure is the first thing you want to do. Open your car door and look at the door jamb for a sticker for the correct tire pressure during the cold months. Too much or not enough pressure will cause premature wear. You will increase your gas mileage when your tires are inflated properly.

Check the tread wear next. Make sure the wearing on your tire is even across the entire surface of the tread. If you see signs that your tire is wearing out more in one particular spot, you need to take your car to a professional to get the problem corrected.

4- WHEN CONDITIONS CHANGE, REPLACE YOUR AUTOMOBILE TIRES

It's common to replace your automobile tires when the tread is worn down a lot. When the tread dept is bellow 1/8th of and inch, it is recommended by most of the manufactures to replace the tires. Wear indicators are now built into most tires. Your tires will need to be replaced when you see a line that reaches side to side on the surface of the tread. A puncture could prompt you to replace your tire also.

These tips will help you keep you and your family safe plus maintain healthy tires.
