3d Tvs Why Do You Need To Wear Glasses?

By:

3D movies have become incredibly popular in recent years, almost every release in the cinema in the action or animated genre now gets released in 3D. This has polarised cinemagoers as not everyone is comfortable with images jumping off the screen but nevertheless, the technology has proved to be very impressive and more importantly: realistic.

There are even 3D TVs now available so we can watch these movies and even televised sports such as football and boxing in 3D in our homes. With all 3D images though we still need to wear special glasses to be able to watch the images as they were intended to be shown; jumping off the screen with objects flying past us.

But why do we need these glasses? We see things in 3D without them in real life so why do we need to wear them for watching the TV? The reason is that the TV screen is flat and is unable to show depth effectively, especially when we are watching TVs that are gradually getting slimmer and slimmer. The way to get around this is by our TVs tricking our eyes into thinking that the image is 3D and has depth to it.

To do this the TV needs to mimic our own eyes and how they use two images from each eye to produce one single 3D image. Our eyes are spaced apart so we get two perspectives which when pieced together in our brain give us the impression of depth as well as how wide and tall objects are.

TVs achieve this by quickly producing two images, one for the left eye and one for the right, which may look strange to people looking at the TV, but with the use of the glasses these images are brought together to see the movie/TV show/sport in 3D. These glasses are made to split the alternating images so that each eye only gets the image they are meant to. The glasses with some 3D TV sets will be powered and so can be synchronised with the TV set to ensure the image is shown correctly.

The obvious downside is that you need to wear these glasses to enjoy the image properly and some people may need to buy additional sets of glasses or replacements if theirs are broken. If you have guests round it may become a fight to get the last pair of 3D glasses so it is important to know how many glasses you need and factor this in when choosing a 3D TV to buy.
