3d Capable Laptops

By:

It looks like 3D is the latest technology to hit the entertainment industry as far as display viewing is concerned. Already there are TV sets coming with 3D enabled screens attached on them and currently that is not a surprise. Media tablets too have not been left behind. There are media tablets capable of taking pictures and capturing videos in the 3D format but the problem with them is the fact that all of them dont come with 3D enabled screens. Anybody with such a media tablet would have to connect it to TV set with a 3D enabled screen in order to enjoy the videos or pictures in 3D format. Already there is a witnessed desire for consumers to have 3D has a feature in every device that they own. From TV sets, media tablets, handsets to computers. This is why the industry can be seen pushing very hard to include it even on laptops and later on other devices with screens.

Movie theatre operators are entirely in love with the 3D technology simply because it makes them charge high rates at their entrances. For them it is good for business. When it comes to computers, Sony is currently working their way out to add it on laptops. Sony is actually going a step further by using a new lenticular sheet that offer 3D viewing without someone having to put on those funny glasses required to watch 3D screens.

The 3mm thick lenticular sheet which was unveiled by Sony at IFA 2011 will be used in a series of Sony laptops to offer 3D viewing. The sheet will also be used on other different LCD computer monitors and can also be acquired independently because according to Sony the sheet will also be sold separately and that means one is able buy it with the recommended software and have it installed on his or her machine without having to purchase a brand new one which has it as a feature. The sheet measures approximately 15.5 inches and that clearly shows that it only adds a little weight and thickness to a system.

How the lenticular sheet works
For the sheet to work it has to be used together with 3D software and a web cam. The webcam simply tracks the face of the person using the machine as the software takes the tracked face output and adjusts it to be optimal for the users position. As you can see from the way it works, only a single face is needed for tracking and optimal adjustments to take place. Only one person has to view the screen for it work better and that is one of its disadvantages. Another disadvantage is the price that has been put in place by Sony. The company has set a price of $ 183 for the sheet. That looks too much for average people. Laptops prices are still high therefore buying one and buying the sheet at the same time in order to get 3D viewing will be expensive.
