3 Weight Loss Strategies - Long Term Personal Trainer Truths!

By:

Quick fixes are not good for you or me so in this article I look at three simple strategies that have worked for me, my beer swilling brother and my clients to bring long term fat loss and energy increases.

As a youngster my little Brother was a hard drinking party animal with a flabby gut, who laughed at me training regularly. After an amazing conversion to an active lifestyle he now gets a similar question from friends, "How do you push yourself out into the rain to scramble up big hills"?

The answer is simple and I'm afraid that until people get this they will always struggle with their motivation levels, usually going to the gym for just a few weeks before quitting,

Our three steps to losing weight, loving exercise and staying committed are:

1) Don't weigh in every day or even set "Realistic Weight Goals".

Who can tell what is going to be a realistic target before we begin? At least for a month or so keep away from those bloody scales!

This goes for men just as much as women! Daily scale hopping is short term thinking which often leads to de-motivation and destructive health disorders.

Your 'weight' on any given day is a result of many different factors, including fluid levels, muscle size, how much you may have eaten, whether you've been to the toilet and so on...

If like many of my clients you are forming a 'hate-hate' relationship with the scales, challenge yourself not to get on them for a couple of weeks.

2) Decide that you love taking action!

Take on a complete commitment to action and exercise as a choice for your life, revel in it, it is who you are becoming.

Something active every day - that's the key. If that seems too much, you are not doing stuff you like, so find another activity. Remember in the movie fight club where the Edward Norton character attends every self help and therapy group till he arrives at the creation of 'fight club'... but possibly a bit less violent ;-)

3) Teach others what you learn or do. Feel free to enthuse about what you've been up to!

The great feeling from being seen as an enthusiast by your mates will encourage you to go out and take action even on rainy days or when you don't feel 'in the mood'!

Do you reckon that even Personal Trainers feel like exercising every day?

No way!

Sometimes I feel lazy, but I think about my clients and friends who say they admire my lifelong commitment and that's enough to cause me to get up and go do something.

Think long term and dump your scales, choose to enjoy whatever activities you DO DAILY and teach your friends and family or anyone interested what you learn.

These three steps, if you persist with them, will make you a slim and healthy committed exerciser .

Now make a start!
