3 Things You Need To Become And Interior Designer

By:

An interior designer's job is not all about the accumulation of different colors, textures and styles. It's a profession, and as with other professions, it requires some type of discipline and requirements. For instance, when a client comes to you with a project, think of it more or less a problem - a problem that you, as an interior designer must be able to solve.

To become an interior designer, you will need these three main things.

*Organization:

As stated earlier, interior designing is a profession and hence requires some sort of discipline and order. An interior designer must be organized if he wants to succeed in his endeavor. Important aspects like budgets, materials, inventories and tracking orders have to be efficiently organized. Needless to say, mismanagement of any sort will indirectly affect the output which will inevitably affect your reputation as an interior designer. It takes a lot of organization on your end to explain to your clients about the work at hand and just to have an overall picture of its progress.

*Multitasking:

An efficient interior decorator must be able to multitask. It's almost a credo among interior designers, 'If you can't multitask, then you're not an interior designer'. As an interior designer, you will, at times find your hands full with different work at the same time. In that moment of chaos, if you can't keep your cool and handle all the work at the same time, you will definitely be in a heap of trouble. At any point of time, you might be shuffling between checking materials, assigning work to your assistant whilst talking to your clients. If you can't handle that, then interior designing is not for you.

*Creativity:

Creativity is probably the first stepping stone to becoming an interior designer. If you have ideas that can make your normal looking room into something extraordinary, you're well on your way on becoming an interior designer. An interior designer must have that quality to see what the common eye does not. Creativity although must be at times, subtle. You must have the ability, as an interior designer to give your client something which is completely original. This differentiates the good interior designers from the one's that just manage to get by.

Simply put, an interior designer must have a confluence of skill, stamina and overall common sense if he wants to be successful. There is a difference between interior designers and decorators; you have to decide what side to be on!
