3 Things You Must Not Do As An Interior Designer

By:

As an interior designer you are prone to make certain mistakes here and there, when it comes to client perception and interior decor. An interior designer is human at the end of the day and thus prone to make these mistakes. However, no interior designer, no matter how inexperienced, must make these three 'sins' of the world of interior decor.

*Color co-ordination: Color co-ordination is an important element of interior decor. The use of colors depends on the experience and creative quotient of the interior designer. Loud and bold colors suggest novice traits for the designer bordering on the lines of inexperience and lack of creativity. At the same time, matching colors suggest a lack of the need of experimenting. Yes, matching colors and decor are safe, but they hanker around being boring and dull. Besides, the time and age of matching decor is long gone, and the reason an interior designer is approached is to give the room a new look.

*Confirm don't Assume: A major faux pas that an interior designer may commit is to assume what the client's requirements are. An interior designer who assumes specifications and requirements is surely heading for disaster. When a client makes his specifications and requirements, make sure to clear out any doubts that may arise in your head. Even the smallest of details, if altered because of your assumptions may cause major deviations from the client's requirements. Confirming any doubts lets the client know how keen you are on the project and also how careful you are of the minor details.

*Ignore the purpose of the room: You, as an interior designer have to narrow down on the requirement of your client before designing the room. Understand what the purpose of the room is. If you're designing a study or a leisure room, make sure it is properly spaced and not congested. Space allocation is the key here and has to be worked on efficiently by the interior designer. When you design a room, the decor, fabric, colors etc must all blend in such a way that the room does not look over crowed or claustrophobic. If the design of the room does not fit its purpose, it may not be appreciated by the client and invariably affect your reputation as an interior designer.

These are but a few of things that an interior designer must not do. There will be many others, which you may learn from experience.
