3 Things That Are Expected Of You If You Want To Become A Chef

By:

Plating of food is an art. And the chef is the artist. If you want to become a chef, there's a lot more expected from you than simply cooking and presenting. A difference between a good chef and a chef who is monotonous in his approach is the amount of hard work the chef puts in his creations from the time they are on the range to the time the food is presented to the customer.

*Skill: No matter what one says, the makings of a good chef are based on pure talent. Anybody can cook, its takes a great chef to make the recipes come alive. Skills top the list if you want to become a chef. You may be a pass out of a reputed culinary school, but if you don't have what it takes to establish yourself as a serious contender on the job, you will have your work cut out for you. An exceptional skill level also helps you to climb the hierarchical ladder faster than your competition. Skill is what defines you as a chef.

*Patience: You have to learn to be patient if you want to be considered as a chef. As stated earlier, a good recipe is a work of art and any piece of art requires patience. When you're making a brown sauce, for example, you need to have patience when the final sauce is being simmered. Any hesitation or haste on the part of the chef may alter the final product and thus the final outcome of your recipe. Patience not only refers to recipes but to the chefs and other staff under you. Chefs tend to become agitated when a particular serving pan, cooking vessel or utensil is not at their disposal. This undeniably leads to their downfall as their products are invariably affected. Have patience! Cooking is a tough task, and losing your cool only makes it a tad harder.

*Keen Insight on Operations: During operation hours, when things seem to be going haywire, and people are running around with a baffled expression on their faces, it is imperative that a chef holds his own, and keeps a keen insight on operation procedure. This prevents from mishaps or errors in the production process.

Simply put, if you want to become a chef, shed all your inhibitions and 'ideas' about the industry. And once you do that, there is a nothing better.
