3 Steps To Self Help

The process of self help is one which must be taken step by step. Only in this way can long term goals be achieved, as without the previous steps the whole process will crumble away. It can seem a somewhat daunting task, as it involves making many changes which is something we tend not to like. Change can be very stressful. However, this doesn't make self help unbearably hard; it is something both realistic and also regularly achieved by those who undertake it. What's important is to have determination - you cannot achieve goals without discipline.

It's important to avoid taking one step forward, two steps back, and to remember that the wise man built his house upon a rock. Firm foundations are key to self improvement success. Big changes in your life can take some time to adjust to and it's important not to expect to be able to come to terms with a change immediately. Time, patience, and perseverance will help you immeasurably with the task at hand.

There are 3 steps which underlie the basis of successful self-improvement which are: 1) making the decision to change 2) acting on your decision 3) staying focused on the goal

It's not enough only to think, you must do. You must transfer the desire to change into the reality of changing. Things won't change by themselves. It isn't easy to get somewhere in life, but it is possible. Whilst the journey will be difficult, the destination will be worth it. There may be all kinds of factors which make things hard for you, the hardest of which will come from within. You have to stay strong and focused, and must realise that your greatest enemy in this process is actually only you. Whilst this may be hard to deal with at first, you will realise that "you" is the only thing that you can really control. That which goes on outside you is very difficult to do anything about, but that which goes on within you, that which is simply "you", is the one thing that you definitely can control.

We must go through with our decisions and not simply change our minds when things get tough. Tough times are simply the nutrients which help us grow mentally. So you must remain firm and remember that tough times are only a challenge and they will come to an end. Stick to your aim, and keep control of yourself. If you don't want to drink alcohol, then simply stop drinking it and stick to the decision. When it feels hard to resist a glass of wine, tell yourself that its just a part of the challenge and the difficulties will come to an end.

Self improvement isn't easy. It is a challenging process, but it's also very rewarding. When you have reached your goal it will not only be the goal in itself that you have achieved, but you will also have proved to yourself that you are able to make a decision and stick to it.
