3 Simple Rules To Improve Your Trade Show Exhibit

By:

Trade show exhibits are one of the best ways to market your business. You have the opportunity to reach many people who might not otherwise see you and introduce them to your product, idea or service. Once you reserve your exhibit booth, you now have the challenge of figuring out how to draw people to your booth to make your sale. As a first-time exhibitor, you want to make the most of this opportunity. You want to avoid the mistakes of those exhibition booths that drive away customers with clutter, confusion and an overly busy station.

1. Don't Crowd Your Booth

Trade show booths are generally small - around 10'X10'. In addition to your trade show exhibit, you should have space for your essential products that will be displayed, a couple directors chairs for seats and possibly a literature rack. But you may want to save the extra big banner stands for a larger space. You don't want two displays competing for attention in a small 10'x10' booth. Have a couple key people available to answer attendees' questions. Use only what is necessary to leave the strongest impression.

2. K.I.S.S - "Keep it simple, Sweetie"

You have just a couple seconds to grab the attention of someone walking through the aisles of trade show displays, so make it easy to determine what you offer. Decide on the top three points that describe your business. Make your primary point the largest graphic with the lesser two as smaller graphics. This will help the reader understand what is being presented while mentally taking in the idea as the person approaches the booth. Minimize wordiness. While you will be expected to talk and answer questions as potential customers come to your booth, reading material is helpful for the person to understand just what is being presented. The material should be in short segments that are to the point so the person is not mentally overloaded with information.

Badges, caps, shirts and marketing gear are other ways to promote. Have brochures, flyers, business cards and ad printouts on hand to pass out to those looking for more information.

3. Use Color to Promote Your Message Colors bring out emotions.

The proper use of color patterns can strongly impact the success of your booth. Arrange your presentation so the colors of the graphics or posters you will use to advertise your business will draw customers to you. Use color schemes that are not hard on the eyes so your attendees can easily read your message. While red text on top of a blue background for example, may be your favorite color scheme, this may present a problem for some readers. Proper use of light and dark lettering will give the most desired results. Using good contrasts will always draw the eye to what you want an attendee to notice.

While these are not hard and fast rules required for every exhibitor, they will make the show smoother for the exhibitor. It is better to err on the side of caution than to scare off potential buyers with an over-the-top design that looks too complicated for the weary eyes of a trade show attendee who feels like they just walked five miles to get to your booth. Your goal is to effectively communicate your services so the buyer understands why he needs to purchase from you and not to entertain strangers for the day only to leave with no one understanding your purpose for being there.
