3 Reasons List Building Is Important For Your Affiliate Marketing Business

By:

List building is important in almost every niche there is. Why? Because a list helps you sell to people who haven't bought from you yet, helps you make more money off of people you've already sold to, and helps you build trust and credibility with your niche customers.

List building helps you sell to people who haven't bought from you yet. It's a long-standing rule in marketing that the average consumer needs to see a marketing message at least seven times before he or she acts on it. A list should expose readers to at least fifty-two marketing messages (and more if your niche will support mailings two, three, or four times a week; this varies from niche to niche, and even list to list).

Make money online by selling to previous customers. You'll spend 5-7 times as much time and money selling to a new customer as you will selling to an existing one. This fact alone is reason enough to invite first-time customers to your list.

A major resistance factor in selling anything online (as well as in real life), is the trust-factor. This can be a HUGE hurdle to overcome. This is why so many sales pages devote a great deal of copy to testimonials and other sorts of social proof. It's also why so many "make money online" products show screen shots of peoples' PayPal accounts.

And speaking of trust...

A list will help you build trust and credibility. An e-mail list provides you with an opportunity not just to sell to people, but to build a relationship with them. There are a few ways to make that relationship a trusting one.

For one thing, you should refrain from recommending shoddy products, even when they have good sales letters and high commissions. People are more likely to buy from you if they know you only recommend the good stuff.

You should also provide useful information to your list members. This can be in the form of tips, how-tos, or any number of things. Most people will figure that if there is value to what you're giving away for free, then the products you sell must be at least as valuable.

Plus, giving useful information helps people to trust that you're not just trying to make a buck off of them. Do nothing but send sales pitches to their inbox and they're liable to send you to the trash folder or unsubscribe. Provide your list with value, and they'll provide you with an online living!
