A chef's job, even though it may seem glamorous, has its fair share of negativities. Like in any other job, a chef's job has up's and down's. The following are a select few of the positives and negatives one may encounter as a chef.

Pros:

*Pride: When you tell a friend or an acquaintance that you work as a chef, a sense of awe may be noticed on the other persons face. This is the effect your job status has on many people. A sense of pride is felt when you inform someone that you are a chef, even at a commi level.

*Sense of Satisfaction: When you work as a chef you have a sense of satisfaction when you see your creativity acknowledged and appreciated. Job satisfaction is perhaps the most important key in any job and a chef is unquestionably satisfied if his work is appreciated.

*High earning: This particular pro is more debatable than assertive. A chef's pay depends on his hard work and talent. The more the talent and demand of a chef, the more are the chances of restaurants and hotels picking him up for better pay. It all depends on how good the chef is and is thus very subjective.

Cons:

*Long Hours: A chef does not reach his respectable stature without his share of hard work. Long working hours are perhaps the biggest con of the hotel industry and one which prompts many to leave the industry after a short stint. 24/7 coffee shops bear the major brunt of operations and thus invariably result in long working hours for chefs.

*Stress: The kitchen is a taxing environment. Amidst the confusion and chaos a chef must calmly and orderly check orders, prepare dishes, pre plate the food and send the food to the shop floor. All this tends to build up a lot of stress in the minds of chefs and may even cause health problems.

*Social Life: One must forget any existing social life if one wants to become a chef. It's a clear fact that over a span of time, your work place consumes your entire world.

A chef's job is never easy; there are many compromises that have to be made. But at the same time, perks are plentiful once you grit your teeth and are ready to make the said compromises. Any occupation has two sides to it, balancing both is the key here!
