There is no better feeling than finally getting away for some long awaited skiing. This is a super way to release all of the built up stress from work and everyday life at the end of the year. Know what your limitations are in terms of your skiing ability and physical condition. You can easily get yourself in trouble if you ski on trails that are obviously above your technical level. The ski shops and the trails will have signs that say that the trails are for beginners or experts. The trails will be labeled as Green Circle, Blue Square and Black Diamond, which say what the safety and skill level are. Most skiing accidents occur when the skier is momentarily distracted for whatever reason. So pay attention and concentrate on the ski trail and controlling your skis. Relax if you have to. Sit out a while and relax if you are feeling tired. Chances are you aren't training to be on an Olympic team. So there is no need for the push when you should be having fun. You really should go to the lodge and build up your strength by eating, drinking, getting warm and resting. You will be amazed to see how much of your energy you use while you are skiing down the slopes. If you are not used to so much activity, then you should remain cautious and not do too much. The next day when you wake up, your muscles will be screaming about your skiing abilities. Just don't exert yourself so much that you get strained or sore muscles. Don't exert yourself to the point where you tear your muscles or strain a tendon or ligament.

Taking lessons before hitting the slopes is a great idea for the new skiier. Most, if not all, ski resorts offer lessons right there at their location. You can take lessons from a qualified ski instructor, and for most situations they'll have you doing basic skiing with maneuvering in no time at all. You need to learn how to fall properly and position your body and legs so you can protect your knees and other joints. There's nothing to be embarrassed about taking ski lessons, and even more experienced skiers will occasionally take lessons to hone their skills. You should always consult your doctor if you have any medical conditions or your age dictates it to be a good idea. Skiing is a fantastic sport that is endeared by many of all ages. While it is certainly great fun, you do need to keep skiing safety concerns uppermost in your mind. They are easy to follow and could make a big difference in your skiing experience in general.
