Many times we get so consumed with selling our product that we miss one of the fundamental keys to business success. You really need buyers rather than just people you are selling to. Let me explain the difference. A buyer is an individual who wants your product/service and actively seeks you out. They know your personal brand. They've seen the competition. And they are seeking you out. Someone you are selling is an individual who you have to spend the time and energy finding.

A buyer already knows about the product/service and has sold themselves. When you are selling to someone you have to spend the time and energy to sell them by showing them the benefits and get them converted to your product. A buyer already spent the time to find you and has thus a built in "sticky" factor. They are more likely to stick with you and your products; whereas someone you are selling to, you often have to keep selling in order to keep them as a client. It takes time to create that sticky factor.

How do you do get buyers? There are several ways to get buyers and some of the following are ideas that will get you going:

Referrals- How many times have you watched a movie because a friend told you about it? They were not trying to sell you, they had no ulterior motive, they just thought it was a great show and wanted to share it with you. You can do this same thing with your product or service. It's simple to get others to recommend you. People have a built in mistrust if you are selling but a referral is just that: a referral of a good product or service. Social media is one of the greatest tools you can use for referrals.

Testimonials- Every time someone says something good about you or your company you need to make sure you are capturing that testimonial. Testimonials are a great way to peak others interest in you. Never miss a chance to have someone else brag about you.

Publicity- Give to the public and they will give back to you. Make sure you are involved in something that has a public notice and shows that you are giving back to the community you are involved in.
