3 Good Reasons For Not Imposing A Limit On The Acquisition Of Merchant Accounts

By:

There are no limits set by banks when it comes to the number of merchant account per proprietor. In fact, having more than one account is highly advisable when any of these reasons are present: if you have more than one business, for legality sake, and smooth-sailing transaction.

Merchant account is a type of bank account where credit line is granted to merchants to maximize revenues for their business through acceptance of various forms of cards such as debit, credit or gift cards. There is no limitation as to the number of merchant accounts you wish to open. As long as you meet necessary requirements set upon application, this should not be a cause of concern. Here are some instances when one can have more than one account such as:

If you have more than one business

Typically, one merchant account is good for one business name. Upon application, a form that requires details such as business name, nature of business, address, contact number, and other pertinent information has to be filled up by the applicant. As soon as approval is given, that account will now bear that particular business name. Thus if you want to open another trade, either with the same or different nature of transaction; you need to open another account.

The reasons for this include, but not limited to the following: separate address and terminal device. Since your new company is located in a different place; therefore, the present address is no longer consistent with what is being declared in your previous application. This is a clear discrepancy and is a ground for revocation. In connection with this, since the new company is located somewhere, it is almost impossible to use the same terminal device intended for your main office. Not unless your business is online, it requires no separate venue.

For legality's sake

Remember that in the application form, it is stated there that you need to disclose pertinent and true information, which includes the exact address and nature of business. If you wish to open another line of commerce, it is expected of you to have a separate account that is exclusive to that specific business. Any irregularity can be a point of issue with authorities; therefore, should be avoided.

Smooth-sailing transaction

If you want a smooth-sailing transaction free from mix-up; it is recommended to get a separate account for every business. This will not lessen the chance of committing erroneous inputs; it can definitely avoid occurrence of a chargeback.

Although, there are no limits, merchant accounts must be closely monitored especially when transmitting reports to a third party provider. This is to prevent delays when requesting for reimbursements, which in turn can affect flow of funds.
