Ultrasound diagnostic imaging, also known as sonography, is a diagnostic process whereas images are produced for organs, blood vessels and tissues in the body of patient using sound waves. Other relative techniques in the medical field include X-ray and radiography. Compared to these techniques, sonography is much safer and efficient.

*The ultrasound technician observes the monitor and detects the areas with medical complications.
*The technician selects the right images that represent the exact medical condition of the patient.
*Reporting the result to the physician.

As per SDMS, the technician can report to the physician in verbal or written form as per the rules of the organization.

3.Additional Functions

Based upon the organization, an ultrasound technician can have many other functions. This can include:

*Maintenance of the ultrasound imaging equipment.
*Maintenance of records and history of patient.
*Managerial or supervisory functions including supervision of other staff members, preparation of duty schedules and purchase of equipment.

The job responsibilities of an ultrasound technician can further vary on the basis of their specialization in different sub-fields like abdominal sonography, obstetrics and gynecological sonography, ophthalmologic sonography and neurosonography. An ultrasound technician seeking to pursue any one of these specialties needs to acquire additional training and clinical experience. However, the employment opportunities and salaries are better with a specialty.
