3 Elements Online Board/Puzzle Game

Introduction
3 Elements is a free online game, played at www.3elementsgame.com, inspired by the hand game "Rock-Paper-Scissors". The three elements are Earth, Rain and Fire. Each element beats exactly one other element. Earth absorbs (beats) Rain, Rain extinguishes Fire, and Fire scorches Earth. You play by placing pieces representing the three elements onto the virtual board. To win you must outsmart the game's algorithm ("the computer") by strategically arranging your pieces to maximize your score and minimize the computer's score.

The game is probably best described as a "board game" like chess or checkers or as a "puzzle game" like Tetris or Bejeweled. Game play is similar to Tic Tac Toe, but on a larger board which resembles a checker board more than a Tic Tac Toe board.

Game Play
There's a slight learning curve but game play is relatively simple. The player's pieces have a dark center and the computer's pieces have a light center. The player places a piece of any element on any square where it will remain for the rest of the game. The computer does the same and the game continues in a turn-based fashion until the board is filled.

Scoring
The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins. Each piece has a score displayed right on the piece. A piece gets a point for every inferior piece next to it regardless of who played the inferior piece or when it was played. For instance, a Fire piece that is next to two Earth pieces receives 2 points.

Scores can also be boosted by creating series of 3 or more of the same element. An opponent's piece cannot be used to create a series. When a series is created, the score of each piece is multiplied by the series length to calculate the final score.

Strategy
Creating series is the key to winning. Conversely, disrupting the opponent's attempt to create series can be just as important. The highest scores are achieved by striking a balance between attempting to create series and blocking the opponent's attempts to form series.
