3 Education Programs You Can Choose From To Become An Ultrasound Technician

By:

There are different types of schools offering training in becoming an ultrasound technician. Your program can range from one year to four years based upon the courses you are pursuing. You would also have to decide whether you want to study in a sophisticated and technology-integrated school or a traditional college. You can also find schools that offer you the clinical experience required to start searching for jobs. In fact, the schools can vary in terms of the duration of the program, the cost, and the qualifications required for the program.

Duration of the Program

You have three options in your hand when you want to choose the duration of the program. They are:

*Certificate program1 - 1.5 years
*Associate's Degree2 years
*Bachelor's Degree4 years.

1.The Certificate Program

You can receive a certificate by pursuing a one year program. However, this is not equivalent to a degree, but this may be all that is required to help you get the job of an ultrasound technician. The viability of this option is based upon whether you want to pursue a higher career and if you are ready to pursue continued education. If your objective is to land a job as fast as possible after undergoing the program, then a certificate program is your ideal choice. But, this program doesn't qualify you to appear in the certification examination that is highly sought after by most of the leading employers.

2.The Associate's Degree

This is the most commonly pursued program for becoming an ultrasound technician. Most of the employers accept this credential and after completing your associate's degree, you can also appear in the certification examination conducted by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).

3.The Bachelor's Degree

If you want to go deep and higher into the sonography profession, then you need to engage in a four-year degree program in Sonography. This is the ideal program when you want to begin your career as an ultrasound technician but move onto higher positions involving teaching and supervising.

Types of schools

There are different types of schools engaged in teaching ultrasound diagnostic imaging. The different categories are:

*Career schools - Offer certificate programs or associate's degrees.

*Junior colleges - Offer certificate programs and at the most associate's degrees.

*Teaching hospitals - Offer clinical experience and may also offer associate or bachelor degree.

*Vocational schools - Offer associate degree or bachelor degree with technically focused approach.
*Colleges and Universities - Offer associate or bachelor degrees with different educational facilities.

Based upon your career priorities, you can choose the type of program and the school from where you want to pursue it.
