3 Easy Steps To Declutter Your Home

By:

A home is more than just stone and wood and the beauty of your home is measured in more than just its size. The question is would you rather have a home the size of a mansion that looks like a tornado blew through, or a decently sized home where everything looks beautifully organized? The choice is ultimately yours. There is a saying that says that a person's home can tell you about the person who lives there. If your home is a cluttered mess and resembles your local dumpsite, then people will hold a negative opinion of you. However, if you home is kept tidy and visually appealing then people will hold a positive opinion of you, and be more likely to return for future visits. Following are some suggestions to help you declutter your home.

The most important step is to first make a "plan of attack". First decide which room or part of your house to clean. This can be the worst, or the least worst room and varies from person to person and family to family. Next, determine which room or rooms are the messiest and could benefit from the most help first. In your plan come up with a detailed list of what needs to be done to get the rooms organized. Make sure that your plan contains a time frame for each of your tasks and rooms, having a time frame will allow you to keep track of your progress and will allow you to set achievable goals and help prevent the feeling of being overwhelmed. Focus on only one task at a time and mark them off your list as you complete them, this will help you to stay motivated as you see your list shrinking.

The next step can be the hardest, but once you have your detailed plan in hand its time to start cleaning. This step will take up the most of your time, but is the most essential. Start out by first organizing your things, group up everything together into bins, bags, or small piles. For example, pile all clothes, toys, books, shoes, etc. For items that you no long want place them all in their own bins or bags and remove them. You can choose to donate them to, give them away, or sell them at a garage sale. It is important to clear out as much unnecessary stuff as possible in order to help you achieve your goals.

It's important to remember that you may not reach your goals in a short amount of time, but as long as you keep working towards your goals you don't need to worry. If you find yourself becoming discouraged, or losing motivation, take a short break, ask for help, or revise your plan, and tackle the job again. Whatever it is do not quit until you have achieved your final goal. After all, a decluttered home leads to a decluttered life.
