2010 Us Open

By:

The US Open which is the final Grand Slam for 2010 is just moments away from kicking off. All the hype of the American Slam has been building up immediately after Wimbledon and this year looks to be an absolute cracker of a tournament.

Unfortunately the defending Mens Champion Juan Martin Del Potro will not be playing, nor will 3 time Womens Champion Serena Williams. Both have succumb to injury and ruled themselves out of the event. Another former World Number one in Belgiums Justin Henin is also out. Two Croations Ivo Karlovic and Mario Ancic have also been forced to withdrew with on going injuries. This however will not stop the show from rolling on.

For the first time in history a Dane has been seeded as number one in the womens draw. Carloine Wozniacki has been in red hot form winning three lead-up events to the US Open. Comeback queen and defending Womens Champion Kim Clijsters has already been a hit in New York when she delivered the traditional first pitch at a Mets versus Houston Astros match at the ballpark just next to Flushing Meadows. Also in the limelight of late is Venus Williams who has recently released a book titled Come to Win. As a two time winner of this tournament she certainly know what to expect when she takes to the court.

On the mens side, the King of Clay is now the number one seed and is looking to claim the only Grand Slam title to have eluded him so far. His best result here has been as a semi-finalist in 2008 and 2009. A very interesting stat is that Nadal and Federer have never met at this tournament. Are we in for a thriller or what? American Mardy Fish has had an outstanding build up to this years event and just lost to current World number 2 Rodger Federer in the Final of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati.

My tip for the podium in the Womens draw goes to the current favourite Kim Clijsters and in Mens Draw I will stick to the man that has broken so many records and YES he is the favourite, Rodger Federer. I hope you all enjoy this article and I will be back for more in the coming days. See you then.
