The 2008 Ford Escape is a mid-size SUV that has been given a redesigned body and interior for the 08 season. Previous models of this vehicle have been very successful and the Escape is one of the best sellers in the Ford lineup. Both Mazda and Ford collaborated on this vehicle and the Tribute is very similar in design style and under the hood. The fully independent suspension is still there, making this a SUV that is meant for use on pavement. The great selection of trim packages and accessories help to make this a very popular vehicle for all demographics.

Trim packages available include the XLS, XLT, and Limited. XLS models come standard with 16 inch alloy wheels, power windows and locks, AC, cruise control, and remote keyless entry. There are also standard safety features on these vehicles like stability control and antilock brakes. Moving up to the XLT model gets you automatically dimming rearview mirrors, power adjustable driver seats, automatic headlights, CD player, and other features. Limited packages add full leather upholstery, Ford's famous Sync system, and heated seating.

The 2008 Ford Escape is a combination of the standard features we now associate with a SUV and the convenience of a smaller car. Inside the vehicle is very comfortable with ample room upfront for drivers and passengers. Rear seating is also quite adequate and won't require the average sized person to feel cramped. The rear cargo space works well for vacations holding ample amounts of luggage.

Front wheel drive is standard with all wheel drive being available as well. The standard engine equipped on most models is a 2.5 liter four cylinder that gives up to 171 horsepower. On limited trim packages there is a 3.0 liter V6 which puts out 240 horsepower. For the four cylinder engines there is an option between a five speed manual transmission and a 6 speed automatic. Limited models only come with the 6 speed automatic transmission. There is also an electric and gasoline hybrid model available that puts out around the same amount of power as the four cylinder engine.

The 2008 Ford Escape has a few great competitors including the Honda CR-V, Suzuki Grand Vitara, and the Toyota Rav4. The Escape is actually one of the larger SUVs in its class and is far more capable of hauling and towing than most others. Overall the Escape can handle up to 3500 pounds towing. Standard safety features include ABS, front side airbags, full length side curtain airbags, traction control, and anti-skid technology. Upper level models come equipped with rear sensors to prevent backing into objects.

Customers looking for a compact SUV and don't want a vehicle that is based off of a car chassis don't have many options. Fortunately the 2008 Ford Escape is a vehicle that is built a little sturdier than most vehicles in its class and can actually be used for towing respectable loads. The interior refinement is also great and is one of the best in class. The new facelift given to the vehicle for the 08 year will certainly keep the vehicle looking modern for a good while.
