Belly fat is the enemy of a lean-looking body. Even those men and women who spend hours and hours each week finding ways to burn the fat around their midsection often find themselves coming up short.

Drink more water - Most of us don't drink nearly enough water as we should. We may not even feel it but we could do with a lot more. Water helps regulate your internal functions and to regulate hunger. 8 glasses of water each day, at a bear minimum, is a good rule of thumb to go by.

Today most people go through a lot of stress. This can be due to various causes like work, financial crisis, death of a close relative, family problems etc. Stress creates a state of mind that lulls you into unhealthily eating behavior, and the result is increased belly fat. So try to overcome stress in a calm and relaxed way.Try meditation, hypnosis or yoga.

Chili peppers, cayenne pepper and other spicy-hot food have been shown to burn calories for the hour or two after they are eaten. They accomplish this by raising your resting metabolic rate - great for burning away that stubborn stomach fat.

We all tend to think that losing fat is all about killing it on the treadmill. Although 45 minutes of cardio a day is a great way to lose weight and improve your health, it is not the best way to burn belly fat.

Make physical exercise a regular habit, and try to be active for at least half an hour 3-4 days out of the week. If you can make this happen, your body will start to reduce stomach flab regardless of whether you are briefly inactive, which is what you may call "auto-pilot" weight-loss. Your metabolic rate should be on super-charge if you can make a habit of correct exercise each week.

White meat - If you are wanting to form your nice flat stomach muscles then protein is essential. But red meat will work against your attempts to burn off your belly fat. Chicken and fish (preferably grilled or steamed) will provide just as much protein with only a fraction of the fat content.
