*First of all, a surgical technician needs to assist a surgeon during the surgery. He (or she) also needs to follow each and every instruction given by the surgeon or registered nurse.

*Before the surgery, he needs to prepare the patient for the surgery. His job also includes preparing the surgery room by sterilizing the environment. This is the main job of surgical technologist.

*He also needs to put the surgical tools in defined order of use. Further, he also needs to check whether the tools are in exact working position or not.

*Besides this, surgical technician also brings the patient to the surgery room and takes it back to the ward after the surgery.

*He is also responsible for applying bandages on the patient after the surgery. Before the surgery, he also helps the surgeons and nurses in wearing their gowns and gloves.

*During the surgery, he passes the right and necessary equipment to the surgeon. There is no space for a mistake here.

*He also needs to count the surgical needles before and after the surgery. This is done to ensure that there is no needle left behind in the body of the patient.

*He is trained for taking blood samples and specimen for lab analysis. He also needs to dispose of the blood samples after the lab analysis.

*He provides the necessary support to the patient in order to keep him calm and comfortable.

*Last but not least, surgical technologist is also responsible of cleaning and sterilizing the surgical room again after the surgery.

The most important thing that a surgical technician needs to learn is to analyze and solve problems. These abilities come in after a lot of experience in the field. A new surgical technician does not have such skills and abilities. While a surgical technologist who has experience of three to four years in this field has such skills. An experienced and professional surgical technician knows the sensitivity of problem. He knows how to analyze it and he also knows how to solve it in given span of time.
