10 Habits For A Healthy Old Age

By:

Aging is a complex process that involves many areas of your body. It's unlikely that any one product or pill could cure all of the ailments of aging. However, there are things you can do that not only will help you age more slowly but will improve your quality of life.

Get these 10 habits into your daily routine and you'll feel younger from the first day:

1. Your diet defines how well your body works on a daily basis. Put bad gas in your car and the result is immediate. Same thing with your body. If you're not getting a varied diet that includes fruits, whole grains and vegetables you're not getting the best out of your body. You'll also maintain your weight and your skin and hair will look better too.

2. Let's face it, TV stinks. So why not get out of the chair and get some exercise? Regular exercise has so many benefits you'll wonder why you didn't start sooner. You'll sleep better, lose weight, have better digestion and feel happier with a program of daily exercise.

3. Seek prompt medical care when you're ill or injured. Listen to your body and take care of any little problems before they become big problems. Get screened for diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

4. Use sunscreen to prevent sunburn. Professionals agree that one of the most significant factors contributing to aging is chronic inflammation of the skin.

5. Stop smoking. This is a no-brainer but also a tough one. Giving up cigarettes can be very difficult but the benefits are so great that no effort is too small. Besides the risk of cancer and heart disease, your skin will look so much better. By the way, you'll smell better too.

6. Find ways to handle stress. Stress is a fact of life these days and too much unrelieved stress can accelerate the aging process and make you old before your time. Make time for hobbies and spending time with loved ones. Any change that will get your mind off your problems will help.

7. Try to find ways to get your enthusiasm back. Remember when you were younger and everything was new and exciting? Time to try some different experiences to get that old excitement back. Stretch yourself and attempt something that sounds over your head. Even if you fail, you'll get a rush doing it and you'll find out about more new and exciting stuff along the way.

8. Keep your friends close. Your family and your friends are critically important to your health and happiness.

9. You're always going to have fears and worries, that's a part of life. Don't let them take over and dominate you. Energy and zest for life go out the window when you're worrying.

10. One of the downsides of aging is that our bodies don't produce as much antioxidants. That's why it's important to eat the fruits and vegetables that we know will help keep our cells young.

Maintain your body and there is no reason why it won't stay healthy far into your golden years. Ask your doctor if you have any questions and find out the facts that can keep you going strong as long as you live.
