"my Quest For The Perfect Spray Tan"

I have been on a quest for the perfect spray tan all this month. It is October here in Florida and it will not be too many more beach days for me. I have a rule, if the gulf water drops under 80 degrees, it is "vaya con dios" until next year. Let the snow birds and polar bear clubs have it! You with me?

Well, this takes me to my newest find, the "Sun Bar Tanning Saloon and Massage Emporium" in Brandon. Any and everyone that knows me knows that I have a passion for bikes and boats. And what do these two have in common? Right, drinking! So, if you are me in search of that perfect spray tan and you come across a tanning salon that serves complimentary beer and wine you guessed it, I am there, eager, able and willing! Ok, I know this is supposed to be about the perfect spray tan so I will get back on task.

What is my criteria for the perfect spray tan? I have learned that all spray tans are not equal. Some are skin dyes (like Coppertone) others are really more like an oil based paint and the "best" work with the natural protein of the outer most layer of your skin. So my criteria is that the spray tan had to be the "Dihydroxyacetone (DHA)" type.

Dihydroxyacetone (DHA)
DHA is a FDA approved simple carbohydrate compound that is derived from plant sources such as beet sugar and causes a natural tanning of the skin when applied at the right concentration. DHA works by reacting with protein in the stratum corneum, the outermost surface of the skin, forming a brown color. The color stays until the skin is sloughed during the normal process of skin replacement. If the DHA reacts throughout the stratum corneum, then the resulting tan color should last about seven to 10 days.

Bingo! The "Sun Bar Tanning Saloon and Massage Emporium" had exactly what I was looking for and it is applied in a three step process. To tell you the truth, all of the other spray tans I had received have all been a one- step process. I did not know what I was missing and it made all the difference in the world. So as of today, "Sun Bar Tanning Saloon and Massage Emporium" has my #1 vote, yee haa!
