Who Do I Worship And Why?

Who do I worship and why?

Going to Church each week does make me feel good, for several reasons. As I approach the Sanctuary or Chapel, my heart warms as I meet and greet my "Church going friends" These friends are important to me; we support one another with our spiritual and temporal needs. We pray together in the Church and outside of the Church.

However as I enter the sanctuary my mind is re-focused on why I woke up early and made my way to Church in the first place. I worship God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Praying and contemplating about the sacrifice He made for me. I am truly "found" and cleansed by grace as I approach God with clean hands and a pure heart.

What does my religion ask of me?

After Sunday services are done, that is when we are able to show devotion in action and deed. Money is tight in our homes, and we are asked to tithe. Time is scarce and we are asked to devote our time in the service of others. Our minds wonder over the trivial, trite, and petty things of the world, and we are asked to remember, "What would Jesus do?"

"He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it" (Matthew 10:39), the teaching is simple and easy to understand, yet it involves real work. It is important to serve God's children and seek His will every moment we are not in the pew worshiping the Lord God. Using our daily routines and activities as vehicles for His goodness is what being a Christian means to me. I not only want to develop devotion in sprit and mind, but also in deeds and actions. My religion is a lifestyle not a Sunday activity.

Do I simply attend and get my ticket punched at the pearly gates?

Sunday worship is good, daily worship is better, and both are very different. Even if I could sit in a pew all day in thought, devotion and worship, I feel the message from the Savior is: "feed my sheep". In other words, get up and do something for those you meet and those you love. Do this service without regard for reward, in secret devotion to the Creator and Father.

Will I see God? How will we meet? And when will we meet?

Someday I will stand before God, I want to look forward to that moment, when He can embrace me and welcome me. He has done so much for me, more than I could do for Him in ten thousand lifetimes. But all he asked of me was to love those He loves, to "Feed His Sheep".

The Atonement was made by Jesus Christ and the atonement fills the gap and repays the debt; it is that grace that fills my heart with the Spirit of God. Life after death is real and that is when I will meet God, I will literally have a chance to kneel at His feet, and when I do so, it will be my greatest moment of worship and oddly enough, I will not be in a pew.
