Having seen FOX's completely new fall comedy tv series New Girl, I am able to attest to the point that it's essentially impossible to think about anyone but Zooey Deschanel while in the show and chatting with the press today on the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, Deschanel plus the show's creator, Liz Meriwether, were asked whether or not it was specifically written for her.
