Successful Entrepreneurs Have These 3 Things In Common

By:

I attended a wonderful conference the other day for entrepreneurs. The youngest entrepreneur was 18 (he got started when he was 14) and the oldest was…well, considerably older. It was a day that was packed full of great information for those that are just starting the journey as well as those that are already down that road but they want to keep on learning and sharing. Although the ages varied quite a bit, the levels of experience did as well as too did the levels of success. I wondered what qualities did successful entrepreneurs have in common. The complete list is probably quite large but let's start off with 3 very important ones.

The first thing I noticed was that the successful entrepreneurs were all dreamers. That's right, they all had this dream in their head on how to solve a problem or make life better for us all. Some people told them it was crazy while others supported them and even others joined their team. Most people see problems every day, entrepreneurs see solutions. Sometimes you hear the ideas and wonder why you didn't think of that years ago. The former CEO of 800-Dentist spoke to us about his dream and never letting up. I was one of those that didn't see the potential of his company. I figured since you have a dentist on almost every corner, why would you call that phone service. I was wrong. Some people think our dream of automating timeshare exchange on the internet is crazy.

The second thing that I noticed was that entrepreneurs are doers and they take action. How many times have you had a great idea and never took action only to find out someone else down the road took action and was incredibly successful? Everyone has done that. Successful entrepreneurs move towards their dream with action. They understand that it is okay to fail so they might as well get to success or failure as soon as possible. It's in failure that we learn so much. The worst thing you can do is stand still. Since the world is moving so fast, standing still is falling behind. Failing and failing fast can be just the thing you need in order to succeed. Story after story I heard about entrepreneurs failing and out of failure came the idea or the learning lesson they needed to propel themselves to the next level. Clearly, successful entrepreneurs take action right away.

The third and final quality of this article is about relationships. Great entrepreneurs know and value the importance of building relationships. They know that they can never do it all alone so they spend the time it takes to invest in and build great relationships. Relationship builders know that it doesn't cost a lot to send a thank you. Relationship builders get to know people and get to know about their family. Relationship builders know that the way to build a great team around you is to build relationships. People want to be in business with people they like and people that they feel genuinely care about them as people. I recently was fortunate enough to meet and get the time of a very successful Venture Capitalist. I made sure he knew how much I appreciated his time and his insight on my business and other areas of the industry like timeshare rentals. I made it clear to him that if he ever needed anything, he should not hesitate to ask me.
