NEW YORK (AP) "Pokemon" has existed almost so long as Justin Bieber have been alive. Among some demographic, the fierce little "pocket monsters" create the form of obsessive fandom restricted to the most important entertainment icons, be they the latest new toys or dreamiest teen crooners.

The vast "Pokemon" empire is going to get a great deal larger with Sunday's launch of two new video gaming for your handheld Nintendo DS. Simply called "Pokemon Black Version" and "Pokemon White Version," you can choose from for $35 each. Xbox 360 accessories and PS3 accessories are okay.

The "Pokemon" games concentrate on catching, battling and trading the a huge selection of colorful characters which are by the same name. As usual, both new games are slightly different to ensure that players can get one and trade Pokemon characters with others to strive toward collecting all.

The modern games add more than 150 creatures to bring the total to a lot more than 640, starting from the purple cat creature Purrloin to dinosaur-inspired Haxorus. The most recent games let players battle not simply people they understand, like with previous versions, but strangers through random matches using the DS's Wi-Fi connection.

"Black Version" and "White Version" are the latest for the kid-centric empire that has was able to outlive game icons such as "Guitar Hero" and outsell big shots for instance "Call of Duty." The games are rated "E'' for everybody and have a broad appeal that goes well beyond grade school kids.

"I like the community feel," said Tiffany Stanley, 17, who competes in "Pokemon" tournaments together with her brother, Trey, 11. "The individuals who play 'Pokemon' are the nicest and quite a few intelligent people I've ever met."

Playing the action, she added, requires creativity and originality, in addition to math and strategy skills to accomplish well.

The "Pokemon" franchise will be the second-biggest computer game property for Nintendo Co. as well as in the entire world, a little way behind the iconic "Mario Bros." games. Worldwide, the overall game has sold about 215 million copies, in contrast to Mario's 250 million, Wii accessories says.

But "Pokemon" did so in Many years. Mario took several years longer.

It may help the primary system to learn "Pokemon" games may be the handheld Ds lite, our planet's best-selling video game machine. Through the end of December 2010, Nintendo sold nearly 145 million DS systems in a variety of iterations, compared with 85 million units from the Nintendo wii game console.

In the past, related "Pokemon" products have popped up, including cartoons, trading cards, comics and toys. The company that licenses the brand, Pokemon Co. International, is privately owned and won't disclose revenue figures, except that, in a long time when there is a new game, it's within the huge amounts of dollars.

"It's like crack to kids," said Darrin Duber-Smith, professor of promoting with the Metropolitan State College of Denver.

The buzz of "Pokemon," he added, has spread by recommendations greater than through traditional marketing. That is a part of its genius.

"We possess a strong community of 'Pokemon' fans," said J.C. Smith, consumer marketing director at Pokemon Co. International. These fans can be relied on to spread the term about "Pokemon" on offline playgrounds and on online networks such as Facebook.

"Pokemon" took its start in 1996 from the company called Game Freak ?a a small grouping of guys who wrote fan magazines for video games and made a decision to make their unique, Smith said. The first game was for that original Nintendo Game Boy, and it let players talk with one another using a cable that connected to their friend's Game Boy. The cartoon series came the year after in Japan, and also the games launched in 1998 inside U.S. and Europe.

The main game's stamina have been that it was built right away as social. In this chronilogical age of nonstop interactivity, the games which were the most famous have been those that let players interact, whether that's on Facebook playing "FarmVille" or in your own home scheming against perhaps the most common enemy on "Call of Duty."

"It's an incredibly addictive game that's approachable by all ages," said Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. "It's E-rated fun that's challenging. It's really a well-constructed game. Hardcore gamers adore it and parents don't mind it."
