If given the choice of all the places in the world, where would you like to be? Well that is a question that could asked to anyone at any one time. I think, personally, my particular choice would be a small town in the North of England..

But why there, it could be asked? The reason given is that it is a lovely, picturesque, coastal town steeped in history where it is possible to spend a leisurely time looking around the town and the immediate area, browsing at the local shops and partaking of a varied menu at any of the cafes and restaurants dotted around the town.However, if a stay is required in this lovely town then there is an array of possibilities for accommodation.

The hotel and guest house accommodation is well listed in numerous publications but a hidden gem or gems of this town are the Whitby B&B establishments which fulfil an important service in the accommodation sector.

As the population of the town increases rapidly in the summer months with the influx of visitors, there is a need for supplementary accommodation and these establishments are well equipped to offer those extra rooms when required. Increasingly, over the last few years, there has been a need for extra accommodation in the spring and the autumn in addition with the introduction of the Whitby Gothic Weekends and the expansion of the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway events.

The Whitby B&B establishments comprise a private family residence that has additional bedrooms available for members of the public to stay overnight for a nominated sum of money. This, of course, can help to supplement the family income. It can be quite lucrative but obviously cannot be a reliable income. Not everyone would like the idea of letting complete strangers into their own home, but for those willing to offer such accommodation, then there are rewards.

Many of the bed and breakfast establishments have been operating for years and, indeed, many of the visitors have been frequenting the same accommodation annually and, in some cases, have become personal friends with the home owners. Because of the size of the bed and breakfast houses en-suite may not be offered as standard but in reality the number of rooms sharing a bathroom is not normally more than one or two. Any larger numbers of paying guests require a fire certificate and adhering to rules laid out by the local council. The requirements of such services would often result in extra costs for the owners and not make if viable to offer accommodation for the small supplement to their income that lettings rooms can make.

There are some lovely bed and breakfast homes available for the potential visitors to Whitby. Many of the streets on the West Cliff are home to a wide variety of establishments.Each one will display a vacany sign to indicate that they offer accommodation with a tariff for such. Some will even have photographs of the bedrooms on display together with the room tariffs.

Whitby B&Bs can be found all around the town and not only on the West Cliff, there are some of the houses on the outskirts of town, in and around the centre and a variety on the East side. It is entirely up to the individual as to which choice is made but hopefully the visitor will return to enjoy the delights of Whitby town and the hospitality that is afforded to them. So back to the question - If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be? After visiting the picturesque town of Whitby then possibly the answer would be Whitby!
