"Is 'The Secret' Real or Not" Is The Wrong Question to Ask Yourself

By: Daniel Klatt

Three or four times a week over the past two months or so I've seen someone else jump on "The Secret" bandwagon, to the point my news junkie mom even called to ask if I knew about it.

Like anything trendy, it's reached the point of being attacked and criticized by people wanting to get attention to themselves for having a contrary viewpoint.

And it seems - literally - everyone and their mother's talking about the movie and book, and debating whether it's real or not.

That's the wrong question to ask, because it's irrelevant.

In simple terms, the answer to "Is it real or is it a hoax" is "yes".

I know many of the people interviewed in the movie and I've exchanged e-mail with the woman who created the phenomenon "The Secret" has become.

For me, her and those people, The Secret is very real, it works all the time just like gravity works whether we believe in it or not.

However that's because it's our destiny to create great things for ourselves and enjoy a life of comfort, luxury and wealth.

That destiny may be the reason The Secret has caught on so quickly and captured the hearts and imaginations of people even outside the personal growth community.

And that's where the detractors come in, because not everyone values wealth and success - and making a huge difference to others - the way I and people who understand The Secret do.

Many people are meant to own a flower shop, or a bakery, or teach children or sell houses. We all have different life purposes and whatever yours is, when you discover and begin fulfilling it, you'll also have discovered "the secret" to happiness and fulfillment, and from there the money you need to do *your work*, your destiny, will come easily.

If someone is pre-disposed, like it's programmed in his genetic makeup, to be a plumber, that's where he'll find satsifaction... and prosperity. He may find greater wealth and happiness owning one or more plumbing businesses and managing others who do the work - and that can and should make him wealthy - and in any case he's living his dream.

Think of Michael Jordan. He made a name for himself as a superstar basketball player, and turned that into a billion-dollar business, allowing him to play baseball, golf, race. Was his life purpose to play basketball? I think it was more than that, such as to inspire tens of millions or hundreds of millions of young people around the world to follow their dreams. And, yes, work hard and live extraordinary.

Did he consciously or unconsciously apply "The Secret" to reach the pinnacle of success he's enjoying? Unquestionably. At the same time, though, that success was in alignment with his life purpose.

That's the key factor everything comes down to.

Think of it like this: You have a flower like a daisy. You water it and give it sunlight and nourishment like a daisy and it will thrive and "be successful" and true to its life purpose (being an attractive daisy). Yet if you treat it like a rose and plant it among rose bushes, the daisy will not become a rose no matter what, and probably will not be successful at being a daisy, either.

Many people are trying to be something they're not, and that's why they're struggling with money, not happy in their relationships, overweight and in poor health and generally unfulfilled and unhappy. For them to watch a movie or read a book promising or implying "this is the answer to all your problems" - that would miss the mark.

Because it doesn't address the core issue, that they're life isn't in alignment with their basic genetic makeup, they're out of balance and not doing what is in them to do. That's the root of their problems, and only when they start doing what they're passionate about, as the saying goes "what makes their heart sing", will they begin experiencing the joy, happiness - and success - everyone wants and deserves.

That's the real secret to having "The Secret" work for you.
