Inherit Asthma And Allergies. Discover Some Information

By:

Some people sail through life seemingly devoid of an allergic response. They can eat anything, sit in a field of freshly mowed grass without so much as a sniffle, live in dusty old houses and be surrounded by pets. But it is quite a different story for others as it is almost as if they were born with allergies. There is a good deal of truth in this for there is little doubt that both asthma and allergies run in families.

If you have asthma or allergies, look hard at your family and you will probably come up with a grandparent or an uncle with asthma, cousins with hay fever or eczema allergies, or an aunt with food allergies. If your mother or father has asthma you could develop it too. Surveys show that in about half of a group of patients with allergies such as eczema, hay fever, urticaria and asthma, there was a family history of those conditions.

If you have allergic asthma, you probably have a family history of allergic conditions, such as asthma, hay fever and eczema, all of which are lumped under the heading of atopy. Usually it follows a pattern. In some families, most members will have hay fever, in others it will be asthma, and so on. Atopic means that you may have inherited a tendency to have an allergy, although you might not inherit the actual allergy itself.

Just because your mother is allergic to cats does not mean you will have exactly the same allergy. You may, for instance, have hay fever or food intolerance instead. When you inherit some characteristic, whether it is blue eyes and blond hair or a tendency to develop an illness, this instruction for your body to develop in a certain way will be laid down in your genes. Scientists now believe that there may be many genes that make you susceptible to allergies.
