Hummer was a brand name of trucks developed and promoted by Common Motors. H1, the original type, was founded on the military's Humvee although Hummer H2 and H3 had been the civilian promoted vehicles.

GM retained the manufacturer rather than transferring it to Motors Liquidation Firm when it filed for bankruptcy. This was so it could investigate on promoting the model. Chinese car or truck maker Sichuan Tengzhong announced that it would acquire the Hummer model but it withdrew its bid after it met the disapproval of Chinese regulators.

The Hummer model traces its roots back again to a military vehicle- the Jeep. Within the early 1980s LTV Corporation made a style to compete for a contract provided by the U.S. Army.
