Nowadays, were seeing more and more businesses going green due to a lot of reasons. First, theres the pressure from environmentalist groups. These groups realize the importance of saving the planet and fortunately, they have a lot of supporters. Another reason could be because of local laws. Its a great thing that the government is finally realizing the importance of businesses doing their part in saving the planet. The third reason is the business going green due to the owners own accord. They realize that everyone should do their part including them.
Restaurants around the world are notorious for the damages that theyre doing to the environment. If youre a restaurant owner and you are not a green restaurant, maybe its time for you to be green. Done correctly, it wont negatively affect your business. So here are some tips on how to be a green restaurant.
Reduce, reuse and recycle.
This is probably the three strongest words in saving the environment. The businesses going green can actually start with these three and they would have done a lot already. You can reduce a lot of things but if you really want to be a great help, start with reducing the use of non-biodegradable materials like Styrofoam. Its better to reuse by using washable materials. If you prefer, you can use biodegradable materials like cardboard. A lot of businesses going green also reuse water. For example, you can reuse water and use them to wash the dishes. You should also recycle things like bottles and the likes.
Turn off the power when not in use.
A lot of businesses going green were guilty of not really paying attention to the power. Its very simple, really. Turn off the lights, faucets, gas and the likes when not in use. Youre helping the environment and at the same time, youre saving a lot of money. Who says that being a green restaurant is not beneficial to you?
Segregate wastes.
This is a law in a lot of areas. You should segregate your wastes to make sure that they would reach the facilities that can best dispose them. You can start with segregating the biodegradable from the non-biodegradable. While youre at it, put a box besides them for recyclable materials.
Serve water only when asked.
This is one of the simplest tips that you can follow if you want to be a green restaurant. Conserve water by serving them only to those who asked for them. Most of your customers would order drinks and would often leave the water untouched. Since you cannot serve them to anyone else, it will just go down the drain.
