We live in the age of speed. People want everything very quick. The work and food can be grave problems and may lead to diabetes. Everyone must have heard that diabetes causes blurred vision. But nowadays, diabetes also causes blindness. Diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions and more and more people are losing their sight.
1. Diabetes is the main culprit for blurred vision and vision loss. There are many studies that show that if a person is suffering from diabetes, he has 25 percent more chances of losing his eyesight. This condition is very scary.
2. At first, the blurred vision may come and go. However, the condition may get worse when the blood sugar levels increase. The blood vessels in the retina at the back of the eye start getting damaged. The longer one has diabetes, more are the chances of having diabetic retinopathy.
3. There are overwhelming percentages of diabetics with poor control on their blood sugar levels. Thus, negative changes in eyesight are experienced by them.
There are two types of retinopathy. These include the Proliferative and non-proliferative
Does diabetes cause blindness.
1. Proliferative
The proliferative retinopathy is very severe and very rare. It is more serious of the two. The blood vessels grow unusually inside the retina. This leads to bleeding or scarring of the vessels. This condition has grave consequences. This can lead to blindness or partial vision loss. It can be helped, only if it is detected earlier. The leaking of it can be stopped by the laser surgery if detection is done earlier.
2. Non-proliferative
This is also known as retinopathy which occurs when there is a breakage or leakage of blood vessels. No action is required for it unless straight lines look curved or hazy central vision is caused. For controlling the condition, it is very essential to have a proper control over the blood sugar levels. This can also be controlled through herbal remedies and diet. The second step is to see an eye doctor frequently. If nothing is shown up by the eye doctor, the problems can be tipped off.
If a family is affected by diabetes, one should take an action for reducing the risk of vision loss. One should not be a victim. Thus one must be very careful if he is suffering from diabetes. It can lead to blindness and may create some great problems for a person.
