Surgical instruments are specially designed tools or devices used for performing specific actions during operations, surgeries and other medial procedures. They are primarily used for viewing, analyzing and modifying biological tissues. Some surgical equipment are designed for general use during surgical procedures. These equipment are used in almost all types of surgical procedures. Such medical instruments include surgical scalpels, retractors, forceps, scissors, rulers and calipers. Some medical tools are designed for specific medical procedures. These equipment are used to perform particular type of surgical procedures.

The history of surgical equipment goes back to the Stone Age. Today, surgical tools form an important part of modern surgical techniques. Advanced surgical tools are being invented every day. These high end medical equipment have increased the success rate of surgical procedures. These advanced devices have made it possible to perform those medical procedures, which were difficult to perform in the past.

The nomenclature of surgical equipment follows specific patterns. These equipment are usually named after the name of their inventors or actions they perform. For instance, tracheotome is an instrument used to perform tracheotomy. Different types of metals used to manufacture surgical instruments are martensitic stainless steel, steel, stainless steel, sterling silver, tungsten carbide and titanium.

The market today offers different types of surgical instruments, including:

Forceps: Forceps are a type of grasper. Forceps are also known as tongs and tweezers. These surgical instruments are primarily used for grasping biological tissues. These tools are used to grasp minute objects, which cannot be held by hands. The market offers different types of forceps. The basic function of all the forceps is same.

Scalpel Blades: Scalpel blades are very common surgical equipment used to make incisions in tissues and skin of the patients. These medical equipment are usually very small and sharp.
