An Ever Popular Choice Of Vacation Accommodation Is A Whitby Guest House

Looking out of the window on this bright sunny Sunday morning across the fields on the outskirts of Whitby with beautiful glistening snow slowly melting on the blades of grass flattened by the onslaught of last nights wintry snow showers, it is hard to believe that it will soon be time to start thinking about where to stay for our annual break or indeed for a few days break to get away from the busy schedules that are part and parcel of our daily lives.

We are lucky, as inhabitants, of this wonderful town of Whitby UK on the North East coast in the County of Yorkshire, as we do not have far to travel to come across one of the 'jewels' of the holiday resorts of Great Britain. There are not many places that can compete with the rugged splendour of Whitby cliffs with the imposing ruins of Whitby Abbey as she looks out over the headland to the North Sea. The views along the busy bustling harbour with gaily painted fishing craft and pleasure boats motoring up and down the River Esk, children crab-lining on Kiddies Corner and visitors to the town sightseeing and searching for souvenirs are a delight to see.

For the non-residents of Whitby who wish to stay for a visit for perhaps a short break or an annual holiday, then the option of a Whitby Guest House is very welcome, for they enable these visitors a fleeting glimpse of what it is like to reside in such a town.

The guest houses are situated all around the town, on the outskirts and around the cliff top area on the West Side commonly known as the West Cliff. It is on the West cliff that the large houses built by George Hudson in the mid 1880s are situated. In the present day, a number of these rather grand houses have been converted into Guest Houses. Increasingly over the past years, a large number of these rather grand houses have been converted to Guest Houses.

In order to operate and be licensed by the local council they must adhere to standards laid down by the English Tourist Board which include fire regulations and standards of health and hygiene which may be inspected at any time. This legislation in some ways ensures that any guest house accommodation chosen by the visitor is to the standards expected for the price range.

There is a large number of guest houses available from which to choose and a variety of prices to suit most pockets. Choices may be made from the local tourist accommodation brochure or alternatively many of the guest house owners advertise their properties on the internet. One of the ways in which internet browsing for guest houses is an advantage over the printed guide is the ability to see photographs of the bedrooms, reception and dining rooms in advance with the added possibility to read reviews from previous guests.
