An unwanted pregnancy can create many problems. Contraceptive method is really important for women who are sexually active, as well as those who have a steady monogamous relationship. Contraceptive methods have been practiced for several of years. Today, a number of effective birth control methods are available that works in different ways and have different type of pros and cons. The Plan B pill contains a form of progestin called levonorgestrel which works by preventing ovulation and may also interfere with fertilization of an egg. It is also possible that it prevents implantation of a fertilized egg in your uterus by altering its lining.

Another form is the hormonal method. In this method a pill, which is a combination of synthetic oestrogen and progestin, is either ingested or the said hormonal mixture is injected. The pill needs to be taken everyday and missing even one day could be risky. The injected form needs to be repeated every three months. The active ingredient in ellaOne progestin-only pills is ulipristal acetate. This ingredient is actually a man-made version of a naturally occurring sex hormone in the female body known as progesterone. Just like the natural hormone, ulipristal acetate prevents the release of eggs from ovaries, which prevents unwanted pregnancy.

EC pills or morning after pills do not have any serious or long term side effects. This is the reason many women depend on them without worrying about their current health conditions. You may experience some minor side effects, including nausea, a slight headache, tiredness or dizziness. Some women may have abdominal pain or tender breasts. As far as emergency contraceptives are concerned, you can choose either progestin-only pills or combined pills comprising oestrogen and progestin. Both methods of contraception are known as hormonal contraception. But you should always talk to your doctor before using any emergency birth control pills.

The number of surgeries has grown rapidly in the last few years to the point that, in 2009, there were around ten million procedures done in the United States. The growth is understandable since many people have physical features that they have always felt do not look right, and they naturally would like to remedy these problems. You don't have to have a very heavy period to want to make it lighter. Anyone who has ever had an accident while at work or school can tell you that they won't want to repeat that experience. Because a birth control period is much lighter, it is much easier to manage and those embarrassing accidents are going to be few and far between, if they happen at all.

If you are on the pill but what to change to something like the Depo shot, which also contains hormones, changing birth control is a bit more complicated. In this case, you want to follow the instructions that your doctor gives you. They are going to give you the shot, so they won't give it to you until it is time anyway. As its name suggests, it is used for prevent unwanted pregnancy and it is intended for occasional use only. Women choose contraceptive pills because of anxiety, self pity, regret, and shame they would have to go through if they choose abortion.
