the Baltimore Orioles Get Set To Battle With The New York Yankees

The New York Yankees climbed to glory once again and have set the bar in the American League East. The Baltimore Orioles struggled a bit last season and have made some moves to once again compete for the division. While they will have to have a few players put up some career numbers, it is not out of the question that they sneak in for the wild card in 2010.

Over the last two seasons, the teams that went the deepest into the playoffs had lights out bullpens. While the Orioles have improved their starting pitching, their bullpen will be the key to their success. Luckily for them, it would appear that this is indeed the strongpoint of their ballclub.

The Baltimore Orioles will go into spring training with one of the best bullpens in the majors. They will probably cut or send down players that would make most 40-man rosters. While that can be discouraging news for some players, it is truly something to get excited about for the fans. That bullpen just may get them off to the hot start that they are going to need.

Starters always struggle in the early part of the season. Very few of them will make it past the first 6 innings and without a solid bullpen, teams find them in an early season hole that they just cannot get out of. If this bullpen can pitch as well as they should, the rest of the teams in the East are in for a big surprise.

The early season schedule has a chance to be a blessing for Baltimore. They have some very winnable games and then get to face off against the big boys of the division. They have a stretch of 16 games that are played over 16 days that could be quite a momentum builder. How they handle this stretch will probably dictate their season.

The bolster the starting rotation, Baltimore signed Kevin Millwood. He is coming off a very nice year and looks to be back to the form that had Philadelphia drooling over him years ago. With him taking over the role of the number one starter, every pitcher in this rotation will benefit and should see better matchups.

Fans wanted a better team and they got one. Fans will want to take advantage of the 6 home games that they have during that 16 straight game season starting schedule and then get ready to pack the ballpark when the Yankees come to town on April 27th. There isn't a bad seat in the house, especially when the Yanks come to town.
