Girls ages 1-4 like bright and bold colors so theses are a good way to start their theme party. You can also plan the party around their favorite cartoon character. Invite a few children; these will probably be relatives or playmates from nursery school or the neighborhood. If you would like the parents to stay and help, let them know that on the invitation. Have posters with the cartoon character on the walls and balloons in bright primary colors with pink mixed in. Another fun addition to birthday parties for this age is party hats. Let the kids play games like Pin the Tail on the Donkey using tape or Velcro so no one gets hurt. Get DVDs of cartoons with the spotlighted character and let the kids watch them. Have fruit juice and cupcakes with bright colored frosting. Give each child a party favor bag of coloring pages and crayons.

A simple treasure hunt would also be a good activity for children in this age group of 1-4. Cut shapes out of colorful card stock; circle, squares, and triangles. Write in large block letters "YOU FOUND ME!" on each shape, then with a glue pen mark wiggles and lines on the shapes and sprinkle glitter on them. Hide them around the party area and let the kids hunt for them. Give party favors of glow bracelets and necklaces to all the kids for trying. Have a pull string piñata in pretty colors.Let the kids take turns pulling. If they are not quite strong enough let two pull the same string at the same time. The perfect cake for a treasure hunt would be nothing other than a treasure chest cake. Decorate the cake in pastel colors, with candy necklaces and gold coin chocolate candies around the base of the cake. Play kids party games like "Make a Song" with the kids marching around playing toy instruments.

Zoo parties are wonderful for a girl's party theme idea for ages 1- 4. What little girl wouldn't want a Zoo Party? Hang posters showing animals on the walls. For more decorations have stuffed toy animals on the tables and scattered around the room. A great gift for this party would be a new stuffed animal. Have balloons shaped like animals tied to the corners of the table and the chairs. You can find party plates, cups, and napkins with animals on them, these would be perfect to use. If you want to show a DVD, try something like the animated movie Madagascar. For a banner cut shapes of lions and tigers and tape them together to form the banner. Write "Happy Birthday from all the Zoo Animals" on it. Consider getting a face painting kit and making all the little guests look like animals. Some appropriate party favors would be beanie babies with a gift bag that also has coloring pages and crayons in it.
