Bound to be a popular exhibition among the fans of the winged animal, Bats at Wetlands will be held from the 4th to the 31st October, 2011. Organized by the Hong Kong Wetland Park and National Geographic Channel, the exhibition presents the ideal chance for those who visit the park to catch a glimpse of the night prowler.
Bats at Wetlands Exhibition was established with the intention of enriching visitors with fascinating facts and interesting details about these nocturnal creatures, including their cultural symbolism, their behaviour and conservation research projects.
Held in celebration of Hong Kong Wetland Parks fifth anniversary, Bats at Wetlands Exhibition will feature a range of documentaries, interactive panels, high-tech games, interpretation sessions and videos in order to create an intriguing and experiential way of learning about the creature. A multi-sensorial experience, the thematic exhibition will be enhanced by a number of organized field visits and public lectures on bats.
The guest speakers come from different organizations, including the Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden and Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department. These speakers will introduce the secret flying mammals and talk about the conservation efforts undertaken by a number of organizations. They will also touch upon relevant researches relating to its species and its ecology. According to research, there are more than 1000 species of bats around the world. A majority of the species feed on nectar, fruits, insects or small animals. Only three species are recognized as vampires. Having organized a number of field visits, these field visits will include trips to the Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden, Mai Po Wetland Reserve and Kowloon Park.
The bats have a special significance in Hong Kong. As the animal makes up over 50 per cent of all mammal species in the city, the Hong Kong Wetland Park and National Geographic Channel will host a two amazing documentaries called the Great Migrations (Bats) and "Hunter Hunted (Bats)". For those who are interested in learning about migratory bats, the documentary Great Migrations (Bats) will be a must-see documentary. It captures the touching and beautiful migratory story of the Little Red Flying Fox in North-East Australia whilst "Hunter Hunted (Bats)" reveals the vampire bats found in Central and South America.
